Meyer Orbach was a South African businessman and philanthropist. He was the founder and chairman of the Orbach Group, a retail conglomerate with interests in department stores, supermarkets, and property. Orbach was also a major shareholder in the mining company Anglovaal.
Orbach was born in Lithuania in 1881. He emigrated to South Africa in 1898 and started his business career as a peddler. In 1904, he opened his first store in Johannesburg. Over the years, he expanded his business empire to include a chain of department stores, supermarkets, and property holdings.
